Maybe not as vital as another landmark of Soviet cinema, but I love what Vertov is up to here. The rhythm of his images is initially built only to be dismantled and sound is used primarily as a means of conjuring dissonance in montage. The first half is cool — progress requires the destruction of old values, fervor isn’t only for the religious, etc. — but the back half is awesome. There’s a depiction of the material world that’s more fantastic than artifice or an afterlife.

Clint Eastwood’s Monsieur Verdoux: or How Unc Learned to Start Worrying and Find His Chill. A proficient, cable-grade crime thriller and an exceptional melancholic mood piece about reckoning with failure and learning to appreciate a world that left you behind. Full of simple pleasures, contemplative emotion, and startlingly great direction. Anybody who called this “MAGA cinema” on release wasn’t wrong, but I hope as time has passed, they’ve been able to take a step back and realize how funny it is.…

Probably what Gaspar Noé sees sometimes.

Watched this cause of Nick Mullen on Cum Town. What an odd documentary, a part of me feels like it wasn’t ever meant to be seen, like it should have just stayed on the VHS tapes it was filmed on. Incredibly interesting, just not exactly sure what I’m supposed to take away. Check it out if it sounds interesting, I mostly watched it cause it’s an hour and I wanted another thing to log tonight.

Edit: No longer a CT fan. No regrets though. Everyone’s sixteen, stupid, and miserable at some point in their lives.
