Naturally one is going to compare Gladiator II to it's legendary predecessor from 2000. Considering Gladiator is one of my absolute favourite films, it's no surprise that it doesn't hit the mark, but it is several levels above cheap fan-servicey forced sequels. Gladiator II has heart, and soul, and it's greatest strength is the tribute it pays to its predecessor, but it is lacking in other areas.

John Woo is a legend in the action genre. I'm not sure why.
The Killer has a plot, and it's a good one on paper, but there's zero nuance to the execution. It's rushed. The dialogue is the bare minimum needed to establish the story. The acting is beyond awful. The action sequences are corny even by 1989 standards. The only thing missing is some 1960s Batman style "POW!" "WHAM!" animations.
