  It's as if David Lynch adapted After Dark by Haruki Murakami but then handed the project over to Scorsese midway through, and you just get this surrealist dark-comedy which feels more like a trip than a movie.
  With how off-kilter this is in relation to the contextual kings of his filmography I expected to not really like it but...
  I don't know if its what the film reminds me of or if its because I watched it at a time that suits the title or if it's just enjoyable watching a man repeatedly fail at being a decent human being.

  In an era of films where the historical epic seemed to be the zeitgeist, this by far, mercilessly, utterly obliterates everything else before it, and everything after that tried to be it.
