What a wonderful celebration of the Lion King!
But wtf were they thinking putting North West on stage? She was *awful* and not connected to The Lion King in any way.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
More fun than I expected! (Aside from at least two gaping plot holes - when the bad guy had the mcguffin, why did he keep any of the family alive? When exactly did Jamie Foxx stash the mcguffin where he did?!).

This gentle drama about a sixty-something lesbian couple in Hong Kong is driven by the quiet dignity of the partner who's left behind when the other dies. It's an excellent advert for the necessity for queer families to safeguard their loved ones through legal protections like marriage and wills, because blood relations and superstition can be insidious.
I wanted to like this more - and I did like it more than the three people who walked out of the screening. For me, the filmmaking got in the way of the story, and rather than putting me in the place of the two boys, it kept me at a distance. I found the storytelling confusing and fiddly, and if I'd been wearing my watch, I would've been checking on it, it was so looong.
I really liked Elwood's grandma though.
