"Meh."
It's consumed by it's uninteresting and charmless dialogue, which for some unknown reason has some political undertones that never lead to any pay off (unless you count the 2 sentences that end the film...which I don't.)
It has a few interesting scenes, though each as predictable as the last. Everything happens how you'd expect it to - there were no surprises.
Worth watching if you have nothing better to do - you won't regret it, but it's not going to blow you away.
I sat here trying to come up with a good reason for why I gave it 3.5 stars, but I can't - which when I think about it is why it deserves 3.5/5 stars. There's nothing that makes this film particularly bad as well as nothing that makes it particularly good. The film is fairly formulaic, there are a few surprises - none of which make this film memorable.
It's a film for kids with enough references to keep adults entertained - it just didn't leave an impression on me. I wouldn't say it's a forgettable film, but it's no "game-changer".
Noah Baumbach managed to make a better Wes Anderson movie than Wes Anderson.
