  everyone involved in this was locked the fuck in. derek jarman is a beast. ken russell is a beast. oliver reed is a beast. vanessa redgrave is a beast. very tight understanding of the economy of film, not a line or shot wasted. the film manages to say so much and evoke such a variety of tones with staggering coherency. essential viewing for lapsed christians, sex-perverts, macaronis, metrosexuals, feminine celibates, and those whom feel they have previously lived the role of a 17th century ginsberg.
