Much like River Kwai this could be a 3.5 or a 4. Based on production or writing or acting I might knock it half a point but they're films I love and are reminiscent of another time so I'm gonna give them 4's anyway. Not that I needed to explain myself, I think I just wanted to talk that out.

Bridge of Spies 2015
I originally had this rated as a 3 1/2 but I'm moving it down a full star after this rewatch. I remember thinking it was much more compelling when it first came out (I know I watched it at least 2 or 3 times) but I was a bit bored this time around. It's a very slow movie and the payoff, while meaningful and important, isn't all that emotionally captivating.
Plus there's way too much of that trademark Spielberg whimsy…

Oliver! 1968
Academy Award Best Picture Winners
75/97This was my first encounter with Oliver! or even Dickens' Oliver Twist for that matter. I was much more entertained by it than I expected. I'm not a big movie musical fan but this one was quite well done and I found the pace quite upbeat. I did mostly enjoy the music too other than some of the slower songs or when Nancy sings about her undying love about the man who just slapped…

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar 2023
Simply delightful.
I love that each actor plays multiple characters. It's such a great cast too, everybody delivers. Fantastic storytelling, the lighting was marvelous, great set design and costumes too. I expected nothing less from Wes on a 40 minute piece like this. He and Roald Dahl certainly seem to have some marvelous, strange, artistic connection but I'm here for it.
