Wreck-It Ralph 2012
Interesting to revisit this more than a decade later. I remember how novel this idea was - all these different IPs in a shared world together! - in 2012. Now this is basically every movie/commercial.
There a few more sections that drag than I remembered, but still holds up great for the most part.
Most 2012 part of this movie is when there is a training montage to Rihanna‘s “Shut Up and Drive.” That shit had me loling

Blue Velvet 1986
I’ve always had a vague sense of guilt for not being into David Lynch. I never saw his stuff when I was younger and there was always sort of a feeling like I wouldn’t be cool enough to get it.

Nickel Boys 2024
A powerful exercise in empathy. An absolute stunner. Weirdly reminded me of Zone of Interest - a movie about spending time in a place that dehumanized people, with the threat of senseless violence hanging over all of the proceedings. Riveting, challenging, terrifying - and that’s to say nothing of the way it’s filmed! Will be thinking about (and talking about) this movie for a long time.
