While there are repetitive drumbeat sequences of tedious rehearsals, this one fascinates me more than some of his more lovably playful pieces, like Gang of Four and Love on the Ground. There are lot of things I really liked about this movie, but as often is the case, the third-act (part) explanation of things that came before undoes the carefully constructed first two. I loved how they lit and designed a set early on that could have been lifted straight out of Caligari.
