really interesting way to tell this story which is probably not well known enough. the jazz was cool, but i didn’t really get the point of it other than throwing shade at louis armstrong i guess?

Tom & Jerry 2021
finally a fresh take on the tom and jerry universe. the unique animation style and soundtrack really set this movie apart and did a lot to showcase the big apple setting. i was equally surprised by the ways the human grounded plot and classic t & j slapstick complemented each other. the human-centric comedy actually surpassed my expectations the most, and i found myself dying anytime ken jeong was on the screen (plenty of great lines were delivered by michael peña as well). a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

sean baker really had us all thinking we were watching a rom com for a minute huh…like the graduate had a baby with risky business and uncut gems. stellar performance by miles, loved the brighton beach setting and the three stooges-esque goons. a very fun time that ultimately leaves you feeling broken and hopeful at the same time.
