people are freaking out because this isn’t as good as parasite but i really enjoyed it. i was really impressed by the very original script as well as the performances of pattinson and ruffalo. “sauce is the true litmus test of civilization” 💯

had to give a rewatch after reading wise guy and i know it’s been said many times, but marty’s eye for detail is absolutely insane - from the bottle of “catsup” that always appears next to jimmy while eating to the little side conversations you hear throughout. on top of that, the small details from the book that he chooses to hone in on make the movie so special, like the meal the guys have with tommy’s mom with batts in the trunk. this really could have fallen so flat on anyone else’s hands.

finally a fresh take on the tom and jerry universe. the unique animation style and soundtrack really set this movie apart and did a lot to showcase the big apple setting. i was equally surprised by the ways the human grounded plot and classic t & j slapstick complemented each other. the human-centric comedy actually surpassed my expectations the most, and i found myself dying anytime ken jeong was on the screen (plenty of great lines were delivered by michael peña as well). a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

sean baker really had us all thinking we were watching a rom com for a minute huh…like the graduate had a baby with risky business and uncut gems. stellar performance by miles, loved the brighton beach setting and the three stooges-esque goons. a very fun time that ultimately leaves you feeling broken and hopeful at the same time.
