hurt people hurt people and miserable people perpetuate their own misery.

this movie really explores sex as an urge from spirit to experience something outside of yourself and to come close to transcendence.
their first sex scene was almost painful and awkwardly brutal. it felt like a dance being conducted by something altogether outside of them, moving them to action in ways their conscious minds hadn’t yet caught up to. and this entire film felt like the unraveling of john’s misery and softening of his heart

everyone deserves to be loved and to be held, even at their most unlovable.
absolutely loved this! definitely almost cried

i had this confused w little women at first so when i started watching it i was very pleasantly surprised! i love films that are set in the past without making a caricature of the past. i also thought the character’s storylines were really beautiful and well crafted! this is such a re-watchable movie!!

the french have a way of telling simple stories.
at first i hated this because i thought it was unrealistic and overly dramatized but then i talked to ruki and realized that was exactly the point.
this is a film for absurdists and surrealists and i think leaning into that quality of the film allowed me appreciate the art of it. it’s one of those films that takes time to reveal itself to you in terms of the meaning and i think that’s pretty cool

rewatched it after so long and i thought the sentiment was really accurate and endearing. I think it’s really beautiful how there are some things we are not allowed to control as people. You can try to erase someone but your mind will always somewhat remember and the magnetism will bring you back.
it really speaks to the power of love and shared intimacy
