This is a great modern retelling of a classic, and Eggers digs into the gothic aesthetic of late 1800s northern Germany/Transylvania with great appetite and ability. This film looks incredible and a lot of the creative choices and expansions made from the original film are bang on. The third act feels a bit too much like an unwinding rather than an exciting crescendo, so it loses a bit of steam but it still had me engaged. All the performances kicked ass but when Dafoe appears there was an audible cheer in my theatre. Really happy about the excitement this film has generated
