A really gripping film that is both jarring in its story, tone and style, but perhaps not the greatest one to watch with your slightly odd uncle on Christmas.
And interesting, jarring and at times funny take on start up life. It really skewers the idea that "disrupters" want "innovation" and to fundamentally change the world, and the film plays with the tolerance of tech for both social reform and freedom.
The photos in this are truly amazing and the unadulterated story the difficulties of life in exile was told well and was one of the few that I've seen on screen. But at times I was left wondering what exactly the ethics of using one's own attempt at historical fiction were as the voice of someone - especially when it was interwoven with Cole's own writings. A truly surreal exploration of colonialism, both in relation to Africa and Latin America. I was totally gripped throughout the 2 hours of strange hippo monologues, side-stories and the near Attenborough-esque shots which the director tries - sometimes unsuccessfully - to use for his own narrative purposes.
