I hope the sequel finally gets to Shelly taking The Substance.
Pam is great in this, Jamie Lee turned in another loopy performance which - on top of Everything Everywhere and The Bear - proves she’s having a lot of fun in her later career, and Dave Bautista is a gentle giant.
I loved the performances more than the plot to be honest.
I really enjoyed this goofy sci-fi romp from ya boy Bong, probably more than Parasite and The Host combined. Robert Pattinson’s physical performance separates the Mickeys so well you don’t even look for the VFX seams. This future feels lived in, dirty and real while the characters in it are larger than life, hypersaturated parodies of very obvious current day names. It’s only March!
A sleazy ‘80s throwback - I hesitate to call it a slasher - about a group of “lot lizards” who take in a cult member (Olivia Luccardi from It Follows) as one of their own. In this era, the film needs content warnings and isn’t going to be for everyone, but it was very evocative of that William Lustig-esque grimy city feel transplanted to a truck stop in Montana.
The cast is pretty light on known faces - Owen Campbell…
This show somehow has a lot of the aesthetics of a Ryan Murphy show, but with competent writing, likable acting, and none of the half-hearted, boil in the bag perversion. Murray Bartlett’s really cornering the market on these characters, love him, Kumail Nunjiani and Annaleigh Ashford the most.
