    Essential viewing for everyone. Massive breadth of topics covered, but there is a very clear string of logic connecting it all. If it has one flaw, it's the lack of depth in its coverage of these topics, but there is exactly enough information present to convey its message.

    It feels distinctly bad watching this after the 2024 presidential election.

    At face value, I think most people come away viewing this movie as brutal, nihilistic torture porn, but I think this movie lacks the kind of voyeuristic gaze of those films. Martyrs is an indictment of the self-serving violence of capitalism, religion, and politics. It's also an indictment of the bystanders who uphold violent systems of oppression.
