The Monkey 2025
I went into this hoping for some dumb fun, but there was nothing remotely fun about this grating, obnoxiously stupid film. The sheer volume of bad jokes that don’t come anywhere near landing is actually impressive. Less impressive is the bad CGI in most of the kill scenes. I could maybe see this movie working for children or brain fried stoners, but since I belong to neither demographic I thought this movie was a total pile of trash. Not the good kind of trash. The kind you should avoid at all costs.

There were stretches of this film that tried my patience, though to be fair, the sub zero temperature of the Alamo Drafthouse tonight could have been largely responsible for this. The emotional payoff was worth it, however. Beautiful, messy, and bittersweet. I loved it.
