One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest but with women... and a hint of how so much of women's problems are caused by and interrupted by men.

At the end of the day though, it all boils down to institutionalization—how state institutions, such as a mental health facility, can make enemies out of ourselves.

There's this quote or explanation I've read somewhere that in order to differentiate between dream and reality, one must try to remember how he or she got in that particular time and space. If they can't, then it's probably a dream.

It's a lot to process, but I seriously believe Paprika exemplifies the reason why we need animation. Some stories (ideas, dreams) are just better off portrayed as they are imagined than as they are real.

“We were just another dysfunctional couple.”

What started out as nostalgic look-back into one of the jovial climaxes (pun intended) of youth turns into an elegiac recounting of the troubles and shortcomings that had befallen a relationship. A solidly written and gorgeously shot short on memories, reveries, and heartbreak.

Doesn’t really have anything valuable to say about grief or about mental health or about suicide. As in: do the writers of this film (and Tom Hanks) seriously think that an intrusive neighbor can dissuade a suicidal man from doing the deed? It’s quite funny though, and occasionally inspirational for people who have no problems, I’ll give it that.
