An irreplaceable man who has afterthoughts about his revolutionary creation that fundamentally altered the way its field operates. Either sounds like an autobiography to me, or an allegory for the guy who invented the Keurig. J. Robert Oppenheimer fits right into Nolan’s collection of protagonists in whom he sees himself; “obsessive, emotionally disturbed men who experience everyday neurosis seen through the lens of heightened reality.” There is an unignorable glaring difference this time around; the world Nolan creates is relatively…

    Samurai Cop

“They call him Samurai. He speaks fluent Japanese.”
    “Are you Fuj… Fujiyama?”

This was three hours long. Out of the whole SBIGCU (So Bad It’s Good Cinematic Universe), none of them are as incompetently made as SAMURAI COP. I would like to say that that adds infinite SBIG points, but it sometimes has the opposite effect on me especially when it cannot escape the bore that comes with bad action movies. If this does have a place at the high table next to Wiseau and Fragasso, the production anecdotes do a lot of the heavy lifting. A good one-time watch with friends.

The greatest thing about this is how John Williams, at the age of ninety, sat himself down at a piano to breathe into this thing some life, and boy is it invigorating.

    Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

    ★★½

I was nervous for this given the new directors, writers… the whole nine, but managed to remain optimistic. As the credits rolled I realized almost nothing remained on the same plane of existence as the first installment, for better and for worse. The animation has leveled up in complexity from the first movie, but like almost every other aspect of this film, it’s never given the time it needs to marinate from shot to shot. The zippy pace of the…
