Striking imagery but feels lacking in context with most of the film focusing on China and only one line about how other nations are implicit in this too (and the line was something vague like “it’s not just China, it’s everybody”). Felt a bit too much like a western eye glaring east and refusing to implicate itself in why China might be motivated in these ways to begin with. made me smile... I loved how close the camera remains to the subjects... we are cut off from the usual establishing information a wide shot provides and yet I feel I gleaned more (emotionally and informationally) from the small details Chick Strand chose to focus on instead.
