  Essential for studying lighting and shot composition. Was really interested in the themes in regard to “the wheel” (“La roue doit tourner encore…”), especially the illustration motif on the title cards. However, this wasn’t super engaging. The melodramatic plot didn’t feel compelling enough to warrant a seven-hour runtime to watch in one sitting. It’s a good thing it’s split into four parts then... Style and substance aside, another one of those long movies that’ll reward you a merit badge for watching.
