1 ⭐️ simply for James Cameron somewhat directing a movie about mutated piranha with the ability to fly. Lance Henriksen also makes this worth watching.

The reason I watched this, ultimately, was for my podcast this coming Friday with Carole Davis (Jai in the film). She was another bright spot!

Definitely "better" than Piranha, but that ain't saying anything, really.

Second time watching James Cameron's The Abyss... and second time is the charm!

First viewing was on the crappy DVD and had a bizarre aspect ratio the whole time. Definitely NOT the way to watch The Abyss. The way to watch The Abyss is on a humongous movie theater screen, remastered in beautiful 4K, with the best audio system available 😍

Caught the special one night only event at a theater I've never been to. And boy was it special!…

Definitely a step down from Longlegs, Perkins' previous (superior) film. But I guess it's not fair to compare the two? I don't know. Both are from Osgood Perkins. What do you want from me? I just didn't vibe with this friggin' toy. Or I guess NOT a toy. Whatever that fuckin' monkey was.

The fact that I can actually log this deserves 5 stars! And the fact that it's SNL. C'MON!
    👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Jack Nicholson introducing Adam Sandler, with Nicholson resembling his Buddy character from Anger Management, was EVERYTHING.

Recording an episode of James Cameron 101 tomorrow that is focused on this film, so it felt appropriate to give it a rewatch and refresh my memory.

Definitely NOT canon to me BUT! I certainly don't hate it the way others do. For a few years it held the spot of "Best Non-Cameron Directed Terminator" in my mind... until Terminator Zero debuted on Netflix. Still, it's a pretty good entry in the franchise. Probably the last time we'll ever see Linda and Arnold together on screen in a feature. 😩

Recorded a podcast today with the writer/director of this, so I needed to brush up on it.

It's really good considering the budget limitations and shortness. Plus, the fact that he got Michael Edwards, who portrayed old John Connor in T2, really helps the credibility of it all.
