Tardigrade puppies were good, R-Pattz doing Mikey Miles for two hours was good, human printer paper jam was good, Uncle Baby Billy Trump-Musk and his wife Hillary was good. Serial killer Peter Thiel was good. I always enjoy director Bong's perspective on the west and he really let loose, as did the cast. This one has a Korean-style coup in it. That's plenty for me: it's good.

Another measure of its effectiveness: at dinner afterwards people kept accidentally mentioning sauce and groaning.

Would have watched this way earlier if I'd known how little sword fighting was in it

This is a psychological thriller for dudes like Ryohei.

I can appreciate the immense journey that Asako travels, and maybe the weird English translation spells that out more, but I imagine many would see Maya as the more sympathetic, much braver character. The Guch (as noone is calling him) did it again with scenes of abrupt tension (acting critique), soaring tenderness (volunteer fishing village sing-along) and disbelief (spoiler).

I also apologise to my cat when I let him out the carrier.

If you enjoy friendly people greeting each other enthusiastically, Ozu's /Hara's films may be for you. I've been needing some gentle cheering up lately and there's just nothing like it.
