Finally got around to seeing this and am so glad I did. Saoirse Ronan has such a wild energy about her that works perfectly here. Greta Gerwig’s writing and direction is impeccable. Can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve next!

There are so many wonderful moments that for me make this a perfect movie. My favorites happen around the dinner table, like when Teresa serves Little fried chicken and when Kevin prepares the “Chef’s Special” for Black. Is there anything nicer one can do than cook a meal for someone? Miami west of I-95 sets a bleak backdrop, but you can feel that the ocean waves aren’t that far away making this a hopeful movie.
There’s a scene in which undercover detective Ron Stallworth manages to sucker grand wizard David Duke into getting a Polaroid together. I can’t help but think that this is a metaphor for Spike Lee’s relationship with the Hollywood establishment. Indeed, this is more than just a biopic about a black cop that infiltrates the KKK. It’s a giant middle finger pointed at Hollywood’s racist film history, as well as Trumpism.
