  What compelled me the most was the character dynamics presented around Sennott’s protagonist Sam, which feel alive and fresh. It’s often in these spaces that I Used to Be Funny hits its stride, showcasing strong symbiotic acting in moments ranging from as mundane as sharing a pasta dinner with roommates to reconciling with a damaged teenager wrecked by abandonment.
