    Finally got around to seeing this. While I think it could’ve been executed better in several ways, I appreciate what McKay was going for and enjoyed it. I also think the message of this film has been largely vindicated by the the ongoing assault on science in the US.

    The IELTS exam scene had me hysterical in the theater.

    There are definitely some faults with this film but it’s a great watch overall with a central message that resonated with me as a child of immigrants from the Global South living in the US.

    While a lot of people have drawn parallels between this film and The Talented Mr. Ripley, I think Saltburn lacks the depth to be at the same caliber as it. An example of this is the film’s use of montages to convey story progression and character development, rather than conveying those via compelling scenes and dialogue. These montages really only serve as a vehicle for the (admittedly very stunning) cinematography, but leave the film feeling somewhat narratively and thematically hollow.…
