Heartbreaking. There’s a shot of some balloons floating away in the midst of the chaos that’s just so devastating. Obvious to say but it really shines when it stays with the villagers and their tenacity under oppression. It sort of doesn’t say much of what it wants to say about the why & how of the situation, which you could argue is to highlight the fact that the context is less important than the lived experiences, but I think it’s more accurately to make it palatable in its balance to a liberal audience which is kinda sad. Deserves its acclaim but concerned at the restraint it shows

For better or worse, this is what most contemporary art is like today. The film is in essence a cosy collection of vignettes that feels like you’re walking around a Miranda July exhibition and spending a few minutes with each scene. That normally wouldn’t work for me but it’s so fucking charming and imaginative that I don’t necessarily mind. Funny writing, satisfying arcs, authentic weirdness (I know some found it ‘pretentious’ but I felt it was quite genuine). Hopeful, romantic, original, & overall a win for quirked up white boys

Well that was fucking depressing. Just how I like it. Being in Cameo with other couples sobbing on Valentines Day is The™️ way to watch this

There’s a lot to like about this. I value experimental work and risk taking in films so it gains a lot from that in its quintessential quirkiness. The wacky mixed in with the profound. She’s an interesting enough character too. Pmsl at that review that’s like this is a bad idea with good execution cos it’s so true. What was this? Who knows - but it was absolutely something. Would it have been better as a short film, probably! Visually creative with interesting dialogue, it does suffer from ultimately being incoherent but I still found myself loving it.
