In my opinion, this was a very weak arthouse film. There were certainly good aspects, the usual things you’d expect from Robert Eggers: a great amount of historical research, beautiful cinematography (though I believe his previous films were better in this aspect) and detailled set dressing. Willem Dafoe’s performance was in my opinion the only believable one. The final scene was quite convincing.
