Loved loved. Completely distorts every expectation that is set up prior. Caspar is so fascinatingly written, and that’s all I’ll say about that. Some amazing editing (incredible cross cuts), and the way Korine writes the transitions between scenes are impeccable. Shot far more gorgeous than I was expecting as well. Looks incredible on 35mm. Obvious influence on Noè.
Thank you to Effie for the print! And thank you to Maggie and Ethan for projecting!
And thank you to everyone who came <333!
Two phenomenal scenes: the hunt and the danse macabre. Amazing in many ways and it’s all been said before. Phenomenal long takes and camera use.
And yet: Plot feels too meandering and lacking of any sort of structure or backbone. Lacks a lot of thematic depth (but also feels a little confusing on its themes at the same time?). Bourgeois bad. Frustrating that this is renoir’s best. I just feel no emotional, psychological, or narrative connection to anything going on. Like it’s cool aesthetically at times, but like what’s the point if I just don’t care.

Okay but like absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Some cheesy moments here and there, but between the Amazing animation, the consistent changing usage of music, and the fun character writing, it really was just so so good. Whoever did the casting for this movie should never cast another film. Cillian Murphy is perfect, and RDJ fits. But everyone else just does not make sense. (Josh Peck really??)
Good screenplay, and great acting from Cillian Murphy. Love how the bomb test sequence was done. Does a great job at really diving into Oppenheimer.
Ludwig Gorannson creates a mock Hans Zimmer soundtrack, which fits, but doesn’t feel original. Emily Blunt is awful in this. She does a poor job…
