Oddly much much better than I had assumed it would be. It was entertaining with a snappy runtime and a simple, coherent plot. The humour wasn’t for me, an over-reliance on swearing/overtly sexual comments as a punchline (just positioning “F*ck” as a joke is a cheap laugh in my opinion) and TW lots of slurs. Well-made film with good visuals, fleshed-out characters and impressive performances. But I couldn’t get over the fact that every woman/girl in this film is murdered. Or that the main character (suggested by a man) allowing herself to be brutalised and killed for their sakes, is in some way a commendable sacrifice and not an utter tragedy. Seemed like yet more women being victimised while the men remain untarnished. Visually, it looked incredible, the acting was faultless, and there was strong chemistry between the characters. But I’ve seen reviews stating this is a “feminist retelling” and I’m afraid I just can’t see it that way personally.
