A Brighter Summer Day 1991
Wanted to let this one sit, way too sprawling to rate immediately after viewing. the scope of this movie is something i've hardly ever seen: we see glimpses of the harsh authoritarianism that beset Taiwan in the wake of a decades-long civil war, we see an identity emerging through all the uncertainty, we see bitter relationships between student gangs. It's storytelling nothing short of incredible.
