Seeking Mavis Beacon 2024
had difficulty watching this, it felt really long, i think it took me over a month to return to it and finish. i think once i realized the model for Mavis Beacon did not want to be found, I wondered why the film continued. i'm glad that black female filmmakers and scholars got some coin and got to fixate on topics they were passionate about for this film. but i'm sitting with the fact that a film was made about a woman who didn't want to be found! perhaps if the focus had shifted halfway through, I would have resonated more with this.
