  Black Bag 2025

  Incredibly tight, efficient screenplay. So nice to just watch a solid movie made for adults that isn’t IP and (likely) isn’t trying to get awards or anything. Just a good ol’ fashioned middlebrow flick. 

  My only real qualm is that the lighting seems weirdly blown out, like the white balance was crazy and seemed to be blurry? Maybe it was just our theater, idk, but it was distracting.

  I’m starting to think Bong Joon Ho has something to say about society. 

  Love the insane vocal choice from RPattz and pleased the romance avoided several different tired tropes. Ultimately wasn’t as weird or funny as I hoped, but did make me glad that I watched Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind last year.

  I don’t know that this movie really justifies its existence in terms of having anything to say or a story to tell, but the performances are solid and I’m grateful it was in theaters so there was something to take my boomer mom to for her post-Christmas birthday (observed) because lord knows I’m not watching Babygirl with her. 

  Kind of get the feeling a Pete Seeger biopic would have been more interesting.

  Wicked 2024

  Initially was going in with low expectations and then the reviews made me cautiously optimistic, but wow this was just so fun. For context, I’ve never seen the stage show live so I’m only loosely familiar with it. Cynthia‘s vocals gave me chills and Ariana’s comedic sensibilities were on full display (along with her own vocals, obviously). 

  All the talk of low saturation maybe just had me primed to expect worse, but I thought it looked rather colorful and I…
