I really wanted to like this. I won’t discredit the fact that this is a visual stunning and pretty successfully done film with Sean Baker being the sole director, writer, editor, and one of the producers/casting directors. That’s impressive and super inspirational in independent film!!
The story for me, however, just didn’t hit. While I acknowledge that sex work was not shamed as a occupation in this film which is great, I do feel that that’s about all it did…

for the 50% of the viewing that I wasn’t squinting or covering my eyes, I was absolutely in love with the cinematography. You can really see how much love and intention goes into every shot!
as someone who is not a big body horror watcher, it was the shrimp scene I could stomach the least… it was absolutely there to root fear into what was to come if the SHRIMP was that bad.
