Every shot in this film can stand alone as a painting. The aesthethic judgement of Rohmer remains undefeated. Possibly the most beautiful film I've ever seen, the colors jump off the screen, etc.
Manages to capture a feeling of desolation, perhaps specific to the modern world. The protagonists can’t bring themselves to believe in love, alienated, etc.
Last sequence is a poem in film. Very experimental. Feels otherworldly too, but that’s probably a product of the time gone by since (Cold War Italy feels beyond foreign).
