While I did like the character of Rita, I didn’t particularly enjoy the character of Emilia. With a character who is both trans and a cartel boss, there is plenty of complexity to explore- it’s fertile ground to create a lot of internal conflict. Children of Men 2006
Always so beautiful to watch this. This might be one of the best paced films I have ever seen- not a second is wasted. The brutality really struck me this time, I noticed far more horrible details this time, which really adds to the film. The long takes are simply magnificent and a miracle of filmmaking.

It’s good these actors have chemistry and are hot because without that this film crashes and burns. The construction of the scenes is also full of plenty of intentionality (e.g. cracking eggs, talking about fertility, eventually being passed onto the next generation).
But who needs any kind of intentionality in the wider narrative when you can just stuff it full of product placement, make it non-linear and call it a day. What’s the message of the film?? Maybe it doesn’t…
