Such a poignant but hopeful story, one that forced introspection like I’ve never had with a film before.

The wonder set from its fantastical locations is reminiscent of Spirited Away, in a way I don’t think any other Miyazaki work I’ve seen has come close to. The settings are so imaginative and it’s so easy to be whisked away into the world, characters, and the beautiful animation and art direction.

Such an amazing movie. You can shape the ending and the meaning to fit however you view the world. I have never seen the blur between what’s real and what’s not as well done as this movie before.

It’s practically a perfect psychological thriller. Tells a story of the sexual exploitation of women in the entertainment industry, parasocial relationships and even the reverse, rape, identity and insanity, but also a story of mental fortitude.

Blackface scene hit me like a truck. Had to hold in my laugh while on the plane.

Guy next to me was watching Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl at the same time.

Pushes the boundaries on how storytelling can be told through the medium of film.

No antagonist, no main character, no stakes for 90% of the movie, yet you still feel every emotion. Every character is so likable, every scene beautiful. The score is so lovely, just like the entire film.

It tells a story of how strong family and a community can be, but also a story of environmental wonder.
