  Honestly very close to perfect. The performances in this movie and the heart throughout really is something special. No small parts, very Cassavetes in that way. And just gorgeous looking. I've been hating very hard on the homogenisation of modern lighting lately. Ads look like films, films look like ads. Everything is rapped in soft LEDs to a ludicrous extent. I needed this, beautiful.

  It infuriates me that the americans had/have the arrogance to take such a deeply personal story about the horror they inflicted on the Japanese and make absolute tripe out of it. This is what a war allegory looks like, perfect.

  So emotionally devastating with so little said.

  Both characters inner struggles masterfully illustrated through the quietest of scenes.

  If I never watch this film again it's a compliment to it and it's resonant effect on me.
