Hardly anything that the film did not improve on the 1930s original.
I feel as though the 1950s were a perfect decade for this story. Moving into the modern era yet still impressed in the glamours of old Hollywood.
Full of surprises. Surprisingly competent in it's comedy, its narrative, its world-building... such surprises all of which were for the better than initial expectations. A very enjoyable experience.
When the medium is the message, this work uses the transition from the stage to the screen in positive ways (by and large), often increasing the punch of the story's quirkier moments. Funny, with great set design and stellar vocals. Slowed down a bit in the second half (for my personal taste).
