Dìdi (弟弟) 2024
My favorite movie of the year, thus far. It perfectly captures what it was like to be teenage boy in the mid to late 2000s. I’ve never been a fan of coming of age stories, but there’s something both poignant and uplifting about DiDi. If this film was a feeling, it’s the feeling of your parents bringing you a bowl of fresh cut fruit after you just finished fighting, if you know, you know.

Sing Sing 2023
Sing Sing doesn’t hide that it’s a story about men seeking a place to be vulnerable and I’m glad it doesn’t.
Throughout the story there’s this idea that vulnerability can be dangerous and the film does an incredible job of showing how some characters wrestle with being vulnerable while others know to appreciate it.
Each character is portrayed with sincerity and dignity. They are nuanced, they know who they were, who they are, and who they want to be.
