all for the dad lore

Thoughts from a Nashville native:
Bring back this airport instead of BNA
Put that damn confederate flag away
Glad to see Nash traffic has always been this comically bad
Bring back bluegrass
What did I say about the flag
Should have just cast Dolly herself
I’m glad that didn’t happen to Phoebe Bridgers when I met her at the Parthenon
They could remake this with 24 Belmont music students
This is like the movie if that makes sense
This was completely mesmerizing. At some random point while watching water trickle down the forested screen, the whole movie hit me. Beautiful and captivating. An ambiguous yet important portrait of modern life.
Felt cinematic in the best and worst ways possible. I think I’m just so used to smaller indie movies that the colors and setting felt too much and too realistic. I think the Broadway and original movie have such a charming feel that was lost in translation from Chu’s somewhat bland direction.
All that to say, it was a hell of a ride. Beautiful performance. Really brought back an appreciation for musicals. Super blockbuster but you know, maybe that’s what we needed.
Loved this film, but initially struggled with this a lot. Super fun film until it wasn’t.
Took me a bit to realize why it felt so weird. The more Baker throws us into a super fun, screwball-comedy, chase, the less he is concerned with his titular character. Ani’s character development is just lacking. Her choices are inconsistent in the respective acts. And these almost break the film for me.
I don’t know what to think. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but…
