tries why too hard to genre bend and mediocrely attempts every said genre they try to blend. felt directionless, long and tedious. a script that obviously tries to win over millennial comedians that have devised some type of theatre before and just does wayyy too much. starts with an interesting pace, and notion then loses its way completely, no pay off, a laugh here and there, segments where i thought it might win me back, (for example the central performance and dramatic longing exhibited for maybe five minutes in the back half), but overall idea vomit

i’m sorry but this was SO good…my favourite genre is sexually frustrated nicole kidman over christmas. balances thrilling, horny, hilarious and tear jerking moments perfectly. so fun. i have no notes… it came and achieved what it set out to do!

Anora is modern filmmaking at its finest.
Sean Baker strengthens his skills as a pioneering voice de-stigmatising sex workers in film, his writing and direction in his beloved previous works ‘Tangerine’, and ‘Red Rocket’, shine brightest here. It’s no surprise that the title of this film, and name of our protagonist Ani, played by Mikey Madison is defined as light. Mikey Madison is the star, her and Sean Baker’s collaboration for our authentic, modern day spin of a Cinderella story…
