Some actors have the ability to absorb the audience by simply being talented beyond measure. This is the case here where 2 brilliant actors do their thing in such a beautiful way that the story kinda falls behind. It’s a beautiful study into the psychology of love, responsibility , consequence , trauma , time , heroism and reality to name a few .

Let’s start by saying this is not a children’s movie. Not sure why they thought Victor Hugo would lend himself to a Disney movie , so there’s that . Themes of lust/ hate , desire/ damnation, good/bad, right/wrong , heaven/hell are constantly debated here.

The Apartment 1960
The most interesting thing about this movie is how it approaches infidelity from the pov of the “mistress” if you will, which is something society struggles to consider even in modern times . It also illustrates how power dynamics play a pivotal role in such cases …. Nothing changed there ! Jack Lemon is perfectly casted for his role. Shirley Mclaine plays the naive/sweet female protagonist convincingly. It took me a while to see her in a meek role , having seen her strong roles later in life . This is a classic movie and stands the test of time !
