  “Hawk 1-2, we’re fixed to fuck with ‘em.”

  A throwaway line that I think encapsulates the message of the movie pretty well. 

  I’ve heard lots of people describe this movie as showing Willard’s breaking point. I disagree - I think it shows Kurtz’s ability to find others’ breaking point, and to use it against them, and Willard’s resilience. Take, for example, Hopper’s photojournalist character.

  While not quite my favorite, I have absolutely no difficulty understanding the impact.

  What an honor this must have felt like to the Italian-Americans of 1972: seeing their grandfathers and fathers through Brando and Pacino. Itching to watch Part II.
