  Admittedly I tend to find movies about cultural identity or the migrant experience shallow and tokenistic. Not that they aren't important - most screenplays just don't attempt to explore their heritage beyond the food they eat or the language they speak.

  In that respect, A Real Pain was a surprising breath of fresh air. It manages to interrogate the internalised guilt of second/third gen migrants, while offering a sympathetic look at the silent struggles of everyday life.

  I do wish the ending had more to offer but it was a Deep and Meaningful™️ journey nonetheless.
