incredibly visionary in its surprising simplicity. precise, beautiful and ornate, but never imposing, ostentatious or indulgent. the sound and image in meishan’s singing scenes exemplify these qualities. just utterly beautiful. and zhang’s treatment of songlian is refreshingly liberating❄️🏮

Suzhou River 2000
a pretty girl does not a movie make. 😐😐😐😐😐 how many times do i have to sit through a horny director’s self-insert with the lamest men engaging in lame crime (in this case the ‘love interest’ is the victim, yay!) with an objectified female lead who literally and figuratively makes up the entire body of the story, packaged as a deep romantic story about the fragile and fleeting nature of love in the city?? this is only the second one ive fallen for but thats really too many for a lifetime. i must stop falling for this!
