Somebody needs to take Tyler Perry’s pin away right now. This was an enjoyable film but no one feels real in it and it feels bloated yet empty at the same time as a piece of film. Zero motivations in character choices, everyone flips on a dime, and again zero depth. Shout out to the evil light skin niggas trope though it’s kinda funny at this point. A wonderful look into a legend I didn’t know of until watching this film. Living in a world from 96 on I was sitting in an important time in history and didn’t critically think about the impacts and careers that also fight for the ability of representation that I now stand in. Ahhh I both see why people are upset and see why this is absolutely hilarious. The score is booming throughout scenes that feel like they are ripped from an alternate timeline Hallmark Movie.
The performances are layered and there is a beautiful dance of straight played acting that makes everything a little wonky.
