Having seen all of the 'LA trilogy' I can say I respect these films a lot without really viscerally enjoying any of them. This is aggressively obtuse from the first scene - literally mumbled and blurred out - but there are lots of individual moments and ideas I really liked over the course of this three-hour slog. I already really liked Laura Dern after Blue Velvet, but she's just amazing in this.
