Film was good I’m not sure which cut or version it was but it had the green English intertitles and was about 90 minutes so I believe it was one of the “complete” restorations.
The title translations were good, “the ship of death had a new captain”, “This unholy creature livery in sinister caves, tombes, and coffins, which are filled with cursed dirt from the fields of The Black Plague”.

Very dream-like introduction, quickly turning into a nightmare. Lots of evocative montages. The first thirty minutes or so was slow, and I found the true messaging and themes to arise in the second half. Parts of it reminded me of Claire Denis' Chocolat, which explores similar ideas surrounding settler colonialism, and a silent, powerful expression of romantic desires through some really masterful compositions and editing. Didn't love it, but I was highly impressed and entranced at certain parts. It would fucking suck to be the child of an arthouse film director.
In similar fashion to Kanye's latest album rollouts, Jeen-Yuhs is uninspired, messy, and has little to say. It's pretty misleading as well and only covers brief periods of Kanye's career.
Coodie, director/narrator/friend of Kanye, struggles to find meaning out of this footage, and he seems compelled to make this documentary more and more about himself as it goes along. But can we blame him? When Kanye's actual career and life is missing so much from this. The first two episodes…
Totally forgot about this even though Mr. Wiley in middle/high school probably showed in every class I took with him. I have no clue why, I think he just really likes the lead actress in it and made some excuse to apply it to English/Creative Writing/Theater.
