Derek Jarman came to me in a dream last night to tell me how I should remake & adapt Jubilee as a modern film. It's quite a wild collage of glam punk Vivenne Westwood models and satirical royal gaudiness straight from Eaux D'Artifice. Incredible statement on rebellion and how ridiculous some fantasies would be if history was reduced to aesthetic and makeup as a memory.

Barton Fink 1991
An incredible display of how to use a character to create a world, where everything from a mosquito, a desk, and a friendly next door neighbor means something to the story. My mode lately has been with stories like this one where symbolism and psychology creates more of the plot than a Campbell circle. There's something magical about watching a character get lost in their own sauce as the entire world becomes about their weird fucking problem, with only one or two sympathetic ears against a sea of objectified realism. Barton Fink is the epitome of that movie. The End.
